Five persons have been confirmed dead following an outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in Sokoto State.
The deaths were said to have been recorded at the Gada General Hospital, and the Wauru Primary Health Centre in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The state Health Commissioner, Dr Balarabe Kakale, who confirmed this, explained that three deaths were recorded at the Gada General hospital and two at the Wauru health Centre. He said the deaths occurred from January this year to date.
He said cerebro spinal fluid samples were analyzed at the medical laboratory in Sokoto and the results revealed that the disease was meningitis and not some strange disease as was being insinuated.
He said the situation had been brought under total control and only two persons were currently on admission at the Gada General Hospital.
