The Nigerian Medical Association has condemned the comment credited to the Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari for allegedly describing the Cerebrospinal Meningitis currently ravaging five North-West states as a curse from God because of fornication.

The NMA however advised Nigerian leaders to sit at home and avoid unnecessary journeys outside their domains because “long distance and numerous journeys have been highly associated with Sexually Transmissible Diseases and HIV/AIDS infections.”
The President of the NMA, Prof. Mike Ogirima and Secretary-General, Dr. Yusuf Sununu Tanko, made the clarification in Abuja on Friday during a press briefing in commemoration of this year’s World Health Day with the theme – “Depression: Let’s talk.”
