Minister Inaugurates SOML Agent

The Hon. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has inaugurated Independent Verification Agent (IVA), to monitor and evaluate the performance based health intervention grants that would be disbursed to 36 states and federal capital territory.  
 
In his remarks during the inauguration on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole said that the committee would serve as an independent and credible assessor of the SOML P for R programme implementation at the State and Federal levels.
 
He noted that there was need to utilize the resources properly, ‘’we have to show results, and we have to pay for results. If there are no results there will be no further payment’’, he said.
 
Prof. Adewole informed that the independent verification agent, Hospital Assist Nigeria Ltd was carefully selected by the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Committee would be expected to report to the program steering committee and program management unit.
 
He further said that the Hospital Assist Nigeria limited would report with supporting evidence within 30 days of receiving on the achievement of the disbursement linked indicators.
 
He emphasized that the IVA was expected to calculate how much states and federal government would earn based on the review of the independent surveys.
 
The Hon. Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said that the committee was aware of the importance of their assignment and reiterated that SOML P for R was launched in response to the poor health outcomes in the country, particularly for mothers and children.
 
In his welcome address, the National Programme Manager, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, said that the Agent are like referees who would ensure that there was a level playing  field, adding that the disbursement – linked indicators are tied to future disbursement for states.
 
Responding on behalf of the Committee, the Chairman, Dr.Olaokun Soyinka, Pledged that the committee would deliver on its mandate for benefit of Nigerians.
