Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire has enjoined the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) to pursue international recognition.
He gave the advice at the weekend during the commemoration of the World Accreditation Day organized by the council.
He said this was important considering its vision to become a world acclaimed regulatory agency. The minister said internationally recognized accreditation bodies were evaluated by their yields, and subscribed to a mutual recognition arrangement that enhanced the acceptance of their products and services across borders.
“This in turn creates a global framework to support three regulatory approval processes and build confidence in the market place,” he said.
While commending the council for recently granting accreditation to three medical laboratories in the country, he said the Federal Ministry of Health would sustain support for the council to enable it fulfil its statutory mandate.
Acting registrar of the council, Mr Tosan Erhabor called on public and private medical laboratories to embrace accreditation as means of demonstrating their technical competence.
