The Director, Resource Mobilisation, National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Mrs Josephine Kalu, has urged Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme to cooperate with the Ekiti State AIDS Control Agency ensure the reduction of the HIV prevalent rate in the state.
Kalu, who advocated voluntary HIV screening for all citizens, appealed to Governor Kayode Fayemi to handle all HIV-related matters with the seriousness it deserved.
She spoke in Ado Ekiti during a tripartite meeting involving NACA, EKSACA and EKHIS, noting that such cooperation would make all decisions made at the meeting operational in the state.
Kalu pledged her readiness to render sustainable service to the state by working in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure a significant reduction in prevalence of HIV/AIDS, saying the Federal Ministry of Health would set the wheels in motion to ensure full implementation of rules relating to HIV in Ekiti State.
The meeting praised the Fayemi administration for its Free Health Mission tagged, ‘Ulera Ekiti,’ through which free health services were being extended to Ekiti citizens, especially at the grass-roots level.
The acting General Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Ekiti State, Mr Shola Shittu, praised Kalu’s collaborative efforts in ensuring that HIV cases were reduced across the state.
EKSACA Programme Manager, Dr Charles Doherty, sought the assistance of NACA in making sure that the agitation for participation by the Ekiti State Government on issues relating to HIV materialised.
Doherty, who was represented by EKSACA Procurement Officer, Mr Rotimi Ojo, called for harmonious working relationship between the NACA and Ekiti SACA in the education and counseling of affected persons.
The EKSACA boss called for consistency in bringing down the figure of AIDS victims.
