Acting Director-General National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mrs Yetunde Oni says the agency secured the conviction of eight drug counterfeiters this year.
“Between February and now, we secured at least eight convictions and 52 more prosecutions in the law court,” she stated.
She disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in Sokoto shortly after the launch of a National Education and Awareness Campaign with the theme ‘Drugs are Dangerous Know the Facts.’
The NAFDAC boss expressed optimism that in the first quarter of 2017, more conviction would be granted,stating: “The ministry of Justice is also supporting us to ensure that all our cases that we take to court are treated with dispatch.” She stressed the need to turn things around in the country. “We should shy away from being a consuming nation, let us look inward and now be a producing nation.”
Mrs Oni said at NAFDAC:”We have keyed into the change agenda of the present administration of doing it right, having a committed workforce, the workforce that is bold, that is courageous, and that is purposeful in just doing it right.”
