About 4,000 persons would benefit from free National Health Insurance Scheme enrollment programme in Nasarawa State; while 26,000 people will benefit nationwide.
An official of National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Ben Omogo, disclosed this on Monday at the launch of the programme in Alushi town in the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
He said, “The target of the programme is to provide the opportunity for self-employed Nigerians in the informal sector to benefit from the NHIS services.” According to Omogo, the enrollment will take place in about ten thousand health care centres nationwide. He noted that the scheme had been in existence since the return of democracy in Nigeria but had been operating at the levels of individuals.
Earlier, the House of Representatives member, representing Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa-Eggon Federal Constituency, Mr David Ombugadu, said, “The community-based approach is the first of its kind to be experimented in the country and the pilot scheme was launched in Nasarawa State. I want to ensure quality and universal health coverage for not just my constituents by the state as a whole.”
