For Nigerians to enjoy optimal health, as individuals and as a population, they must have the benefit of high-quality health care services effectively coordinated within a strong public health system while the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) need to be strengthened and oversight functions of the health management organisation improved greatly.
The above was the remark by a medical practitioner, Abdulwaheed Abayomi, Medical Director, Crest Hospital based in Lagos. He made the remark while speaking on the roll out plan for the ‘50 Days One Free Surgery Per Day and STEM CELL’ initiative being put in place, as part of activities for his 50th birthday celebration.

According to him, the free surgeries is his contributions to stem alarming death rate in the society, adding that the initiative is borne out of the need to respond to the needs of disadvantaged Nigerians and deliver on the hospital’s objective of promoting good health as well as contributing to the eradication of poverty, through supporting government efforts in the provision of affordable and qualitative education.
Abayomi, who will be 50 on September 13, said the surgeries would be carried out at the Hospital in Igando and would be preceded with registration and examination of beneficiaries from September1-8.
