The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) has elected a new president, Miss Winifred Erepade Esite of Niger Delta University (NDU, Wilberforce Island.
The election which produced NiMSA’s first ever female national president in its 48 years of existence, was held at its just concluded general assembly at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria.
Miss Esite beat two other candidates to clinch the coveted seat, including Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and National Association of Residents Doctors (NARD) backed candidate. Mr Williams of University of Nigeria Nsukka and Mr John chukwu of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka came a distant second and third respectively.
Miss Winifred, in her acceptance speech, promised to bring professionalism and innovation to the fore during her administration and work closely with all past leaderships to strengthen the dreams and ideals of the founding fathers. She also called on her opponents to join hands with her in moving the association to even greater heights.
“The time of politics and division is over and the period of governance is at hand,” she said.
