NMA Calls For Law Against Quackery In Ebonyi State

The Ebonyi State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, weekend, called on the state House of Assembly to enact a law against the practice of medical quackery in the State.

According to the association, the development had over the years led to the death of innocent and unsuspecting victims who patronise quacks in the medical profession without knowing its consequences.

State chairman of the association, Dr. Austin Ikwudinma, who made the call during a public enlightenment campaign tagged: “Declaration of war against medical quackery in Ebonyi State” at Afikpo council headquarters, said that with the law against quackery in place, the practice will be eradicated and/ or reduced to its barest minimum, especially in the rural areas of the state.

Ikwudinma described medical quackery as a fraud because the practitioners know that they are not qualified for the services they are paid to render, adding that the association had also constituted Anti-Quackery Committee to fight quackery to a standstill in the state.

“A non doctor cannot be part of the anti-quackery committee. We are calling on the state government and the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to help ensure the smooth passage of the Anti-Quackery Bill, which will soon be sent to the House.
