The Imo State, chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Mr. Darlington Akukwu, said, yesterday, that the health sector in the state, has been mismanaged and doctors neglected.
Darlington made this known to newsmen in Owerri, while speaking on the quality of health services in the state.
According to him, the need has come to look into the welfare of doctors in the state, as such would encourage them to give quality services. While commending Okorocha for appointing a professional as a health commissioner, Angela Uwakwem, he argued that the condition of health services in the state, had gone so bad during the time, Ngozi Njoku, was a health commissioner, for two years.
He said: “We want to say here that the Governor has done well in appointing a professional to head the ministry of health.
“This is not to tell you that during the time Ngozi Njoku, was a commissioner of health, her two years in office was hell, based on her inexperience in the health profession. The reason was that she could not differentiate between a profession and politics.”
He further said: “The welfare of my doctors is very significant and we want the government to look into this area holistically. The time has come to have a welfare package for doctors in the state.”
