NMCN Circular on Registration of Nurses with Postgraduate Certificates

At the 37th General meeting of the Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Coucil of Nigeria, the following decisions were approved for implementation:
 
1. Nurses with MSc in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing wishing to be registered with the Council should be registered after passing the council professional examination for Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing.
 
In view of the above, the Board further directed that:
 
i. Department of Nursing should work out modalities to ensure that these students are registered for council professional examination while still in school so that they could take the examination at the end of MSc program.
ii. The department should forward the names of these candidates to the council for indexing, identification and early notification of the examination session.nursingworldnigeria.com
iii. Department of Nursing should make adequate arrangement with the Psychiatric Hospitals used for clinical practice for the smooth running of the practical examination.
 
2. Nurses with Masters in the following specialties should be registered as
i. Nursing Education as Nurse Educator
ii. Nursing Administration as Nurse Administrator
iii. Public/ Community Health Nursing as Public Health Nurse
 
No Council Examination shall apply to the above specialties.
 
The above decisions were part of Council’s efforts to ensure that qualified nurses are properly registered in order to boost nursing manpower development in Nigeria.
 
In view of the above, you are hereby requested to put in place all necessary arrangements to ensure that the above decisions are complied with fully.
