Distributes Free Nets, Drugs . To reduce malaria scourge in the country, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Chevron Joint Venture has embarked on campaigns in the riverine areas of Ondo State, urging people to maintain clean environment.
The event held at the weekend in Ugbo, Ilaje Local Government Area, with awareness lecture on the dangers, causes and prevention of the deadly disease. Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), an operator of the Joint Venture (JV) between NNPC and CNL, engaged Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) to handle the programme for people across 500 riverine communities yearly.
The state WRAPA Coordinator, Mrs. Edna Ohunayo, noted that the annual initiative had been beneficial to people of the area, whose environments are prone to breeding mosquitoes causing malaria. Similarly, the resource person, and Medical Officer of the Nigerian Navy, Forward Operational Base (FOB), Igbokoda, Lieutenant Raphael Awofe said children under five are the major victims of malaria.
General Manager, Policy Government and Public Affairs of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn, affirmed that it is one of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives by the company to better the health of the people.
