In its bid at reducing maternal and child mortality rate, the Ogun State Government has trained Alternative Medicine Practitioners at ensuring efficient and qualitative service delivery to the citizenry.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, who spoke at the training held at Basic Trust Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, said it was organized to ensure the fulfilment of one of the five cardinal programmes of the present administration at providing affordable and efficient healthcare delivery to the people.
He said the 200 alternative medicine practitioners such as traditional birth attendants, mission birth attendants and herbalists were trained on application of precautions in service delivery, keeping good hygiene, handling sharp objects, sterilisation of delivery equipment, housekeeping among others. “The second of the five cardinal agenda on the Mission to Rebuild Ogun state is the provision of affordable, efficient and qualitative health services. In order for us to achieve that key mandate of government, we have decided to bring you all as an important component in health care delivery particularly as pertaining to our women and children across our cities and communities,” the Commissioner explained.
Ipaye noted that alternative medicine practitioners were valuable in the communities and could not be undermined, saying that government would engage them regularly at improving efficient healthcare and quality service delivery.
“We value your participation in primary healthcare services to the people of the State and we have decided that you should benefit from regular government’s engagement including this training that is aimed at improving your capacity to deliver efficient services to the people, “Dr. Ipaye noted.
The Commissioner enjoined them to make use of the knowledge acquired at the event to improve service delivery, warning that licenses of anyone found guilty of operating contrary to laid down procedure would be withdrawn.
