Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Training for Paediatric Nurses and Midwives
This two day classroom, Instructor-led course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, Basic Life Support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.
The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
AUDIENCE
For healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.
COURSE CONTENTS:
Pediatric Basic Life Support (BLS)
Systematic Approach to Assessment
Respiratory Emergency Management
Shock Emergency Management
Caridac/ Arrhythmia Emergencies
Post Cardiac Arrest Care/ Management
METHODOLOGY:
Video components, group discussions, hands-on practice, case scenario testing and skill check-offs
COURSE FORMAT
- Students work with a PALS Instructor to complete the following:
- Actively participate in, practice and complete all learning stations
- Complete the open-resource written exam with a minimum score of 84%
- Pass the 1- and 2-Rescuer Child BLS With AED and 1- and 2-Rescuer Infant BLS Skills Tests
- Pass 2 PALS core case scenarios (1 cardiac and 1 respiratory or shock) as a team leader, providing appropriate medical treatment and demonstrating effective team dynamics

American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider course completion Licence, valid for 2 years.
