The National Chairman of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria, Mr. Martins Oyewole, has called on the Federal Government to approve consultancy status for pharmacists who have acquired the appropriate training and experience.
Oyewole, in a statement issued to mark the World Pharmacists Day, said the approval of the fellowship programme of the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists as a consultancy programme for pharmacists, was long overdue.
He charged pharmacists working in public-owned hospitals to discharge their duties by providing timely and appropriate care to patients.
Oyewole warned that the nation might witness a shortage of essential drugs crisis due to the falling value of the naira which he said had made the importation of medicines a difficult task.
Also, AHAPN National Vice Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Amibor, advised Nigerians to go for regular medical check-up.
Amibor noted that the association's various chapters organised free health checks and inaugurated deworming campaigns to encourage healthy living among Nigerians.
