A senior urban management official in central China has been fired after his wife was filmed apparently assaulting a pregnant nurse who was treating the couple’s child.
The nurse said she was attacked by the mother of a 4-year-old boy as she was trying to give the youngster an injection at a hospital in Tongshan county, Hubei province, on Friday, local newspaper Chutian Metropolis Daily reported.
In a video circulated online, the two women are seen scuffling and the mother appears to pull the nurse’s hair. The 38-year-old medic, who was about six weeks pregnant at the time, collapsed on the floor as a result of the assault and required hospital treatment for a threatened miscarriage.
She was quoted as saying that the child’s mother became angry after the nurse told the child to stop moving his arms while preparing him for his jab.
After the child screamed in pain, the two women began arguing and the mother pushed the nurse and kicked her in the stomach, the report said.
The mother’s husband, identified as Xu Lianglu, was the head of Tongshan’s Chengguan, or urban management team. Although he was not involved in the incident, he was dismissed, the county government announced in a statement on Sunday. It did not elaborate on the issue.
Although the mother was not named in the report, she was apparently identified by social media users and is now the subject of a police investigation, the statement said. -- SCMP
