As part of efforts to reduce maternal/child mortality and address some diseases, assorted drug worth N100million have been purchased for distribution, free, to pregnant women and under-five children in Sokoto.
Commissioner of Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale who disclosed this Tuesday, said it was also to alleviate suffering of the people of the state.
He said the drugs for distribution to pregnant women included blood tonics, anti-alarias, nutritional supplements, sanitary wares, mama kits, among others. Among those for children, he added, were deworming tablets, anti-malarias, anti-pneumonia, anti-diarrheal and anti typhoid.
According to him, the drugs were distributed to all hospitals and health facilities in all local government areas of Sokoto state .
He revealed that various committees were set to ensure diligence in the distribution of the drugs.
