PSN Restates Commitment To Safe, Affordable Drugs

The President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm  Ahmed Ibrahim Yakasai has stated that the profession is committed  to  the implementation of the National Drug guidelines for save and affordable pharmaceutical products
 
The President who spoke yesterday, during a visit to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji (Dr) Umar Farouk Bahago, as part of activities for  PSN’s National Conference which commenced today in Minna , stated that the conference  was to provide platforms for interface among members.
 
He added that the conference will review and brainstorm  on what was trending in the profession globally. Ahmed stated that the plan was to make the profession more clinical to meet the noble nature of the callings.He sdisclosed that the plan is to ensure that from next year, it will become Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D)  at Bachelor of Science BSC levels to make the profession more patient oriented.
 
Also, during a visit to the wife of Niger state governor, Dr Amina Abubakar Bello, Yakasai emphasised the role of Pharmacists in the delivery of health care, hence the theme of the conference, ‘Pharmacists Contribution to the  national Health Development’, whereas  the PSN is one of the oldest professional bodies  in the country.
 
He stated that the body is a noble one and that the body is now 89 years since it was established as a body for professionals in Pharmacy and has been evolving along trending best world practices.
 
The Emir of Minna while responding, said that he was ready to mobilise his domain against fake drugs while asking PSN members to sustain the fight against fake drugs.
 
He advised the pharmacists to also educate the people on save shelf storage system of drugs that are standard and help to keep the potency of the drugs intact adding that most of the people are ignorant of the save shelf storage mechanism that will not reduce the potency of drugs.
