#Quacks Trained And Certified At Gbeye Hospital And Maternity, Rivers State Owned By Doctor and Nurse Duo

Posted on: Fri 03-11-2017

The hits just keep on coming. Barely 2 months have gone by after the outcry following the viral video from OPM (Papa Jesus) which trained quack dressed in the Nursing Uniforms in 3weeks in Portharcourt, the topic has come up once more. Like DJ Khalid always says in his songs "ITS ANOTHER ONE"

A lady Vivian Njoku posted close to 27 pictures on facebook showing herself and her colleagues and also that of a Medical Doctor "Ikechukwu Chukwueme Obinna" who it seems works in the facility rejoicing that she had ended her training to be a registered nurse proudly displaying their certificates from Gbeye Hospital And Maternity, Rivers State.

She said:
😀I want 2 thank d almighty God 4 seeing me through my training...finally I am a certified nurse 😀😀😀glory b to God. Am really gonna miss my frndz nd my doctors.. l love u guys so much...to my doctors I wanna thank you 4 ur care nd advice which u gave 2 us, we really appreciate.....wow finally am done, what a relief...congratulations 2 myself nd my colleagues.
It should be noted at this point that Gbeye Hospital And Maternity is not a School of Nursing neither is it a School of Midwifery registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

As furious as Nigerian Nurses may be on this, there is every chance this would  go away without punishment from the  Nursing regulatory board in the country as Council is noted for turning a blind eye and deaf ears to quacks while many Nurses in the country belief its area of specialty is to milk nurses of their hard earned money in MCPDP and license renewal fees while offering poor services in return as nurses have to wait till eternity to have their renewed license back. The fight against the menace of quackery in Nigeria has and will always be an ongoing battle as can be seen below from a few excepts:

January 24th 2014
NANNM President Comrade Abdulrafiu Adeniji:
We are really going to have it as one of our programmes that has to be taken very serious, we enjoin nurses to also desist from contributing to giving nursing a bad image because if you train a quack or you are using a quack or you are patronising a quack, you are giving nursing a bad image.

Omega Power Ministries, (OPM) trains quack nurses in three weeks skills acquisition programme titled: “society for safe motherhood.” where in a video posted online, the quack nurses, all clad in white uniforms boasted that in less than three weeks, using the curriculum of the mother for safe motherhood, they had learnt how to assess the gestational age of the foetus, give injections and set up infusions, administer immunization, amongst other health services.

A registered nurse and member of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria who spoke under anonymity told DAILY POST that Council was aware of the viral video and the quack nurses churned out by the church, and was going to do everything possible to investigate and get to the root of the matter, as well as ensure necessary actions taken.

“The OPM founder is aware of the laws, that it is the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria that has the powers by law to accredit Schools of Nursing and Midwifery to train Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria and also to licence them to practice. We (Council) are putting modalities to handle the matter, please, nurses should be rest assured of the Council’s assurance in protecting our Noble Profession,” the nurse said.

Alhaji Faruk Umar the NMCN Registra in an interview with Daily Trust: ‘All auxiliary nurses are quacks’
There is nothing like auxiliary nursing. When you say auxiliary nurse, it refers to a quack. We don’t recognize them and they are a threat to the health of Nigerians,  and the nursing profession in the country. As far as we are concerned, any hospital operating with auxiliary nurses, is operating with quack nurses, because they are quacks. They are not competent, to deliver nursing care and members of the public that access services from such hospitals are doing so at their own risk. Some hospitals claim they train the auxiliary nurses on the rudiments of nursing. Some doctors who also work in public hospitals and own private clinics, leave the care of Nigerians to these auxiliary nurses after ‘training’ them? It is an illegal training because they don’t have the power to train them as nurses. A doctor in a hospital has no power to train a nurse. Nursing is an independent profession that cannot be trained by another profession, and we have our own ethics.

If a doctor establishes a hospital and begins to train people on nursing, he has bridged the law of nursing in this country.

Lets take a closer look at this:
Gbeye Hospital And Maternity has a Registered Nurse as a Director
The Medical Director of Gbeye Hospital And Maternity is a Doctor
Both have the same surname; might be married

This shows that both are healthcare providers and should be aware that it is against the law of the country and that of the NMCN to train individuals in a private hospital and certify them as Nurses to practice who are not licensed with the nursing regulatory body.

As seen above the MSA Director is a "Registered Nurse/Midwife", the question has to be:
1. why is her hospital training quacks as nurses?
2. Is it the monies these individuals pay for such a training worth the lives of innocent nigerians who MIGHT die at their hands
3. Would any of them take the cars they are currently driving to a quack mechanic to repair but they are ok with quacks taking care of human beings

If our Nursing regulatory bodies NANNM and the NMCN see this and nothing is done, then When any of our national dailies carry the news "Nurse kills baby...., Nurse Slaps Pregnant Mother...., Nurse Gossips and Ignores dying patient...." no one should cry out because like the saying goes:

"THE ONLY THING NECESSARY FOR THE TRUIMPH OF EVIL IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING" and if you dont know it yet, training quacks and sending them out to the unsuspecting public is totally and morally wrong. But i guess for a few more bucks, your conscience and morallity has taken a back seat
