The Association of Radiographers of Nigeria has warned members of the public against patronising quacks in the health sector, saying their activities are capable of generating radiation that may lead to “adverse effects”.
In a statement issued by the state chairman of the association in Lagos, AFK Bakre, the group insisted that only a recognised radiographer is licensed to “dispense ionizing radiation on bodies.”
“Members of the public patronizing any facilities/hospitals must know that it is their right to ask questions about the standard of the service they receive. This is because the adverse effect of radiation can lead to serious consequences. Only a licensed radiographer is empowered by law to dispense ionizing radiation on bodies,” a part of the statement read.
The statement also warned that anybody engaging in the practice of radiography without adequate registration of the hospital/ facility and personnel is doing so illegally in Nigeria.
