The House of Representatives yesterday raised alarm over the prevalent rate of HIV/AIDS at some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.
The lawmakers, while adopting a motion by Aishatu Jibril Dukku (APC, Gombe), said the rate at which IDPs contact the disease was becoming alarming. Based on recent records from the Borno State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (BOSACA), the House said, 512 new cases of HIV infections were recorded at the various IDPs camps in the state.
The House said official records had earlier shown that no fewer than 5,000 IDPs in 27 camps in the state were currently living with the virus.
The House mandated the committees on IDPs and Healthcare Services to assess the problems and report back within four weeks.
