The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on malaria. Also, the House tasked the government with effective management of the Lassa fever outbreak in Benue State.
Adopting a motion entitled, ‘Review of the National Anti-Malaria Treatment Policy in Nigeria,’ which was moved by Benjamin Mzondu, the lawmakers unanimously resolved that the Federal Ministry of Health should declare an emergency on malaria.
They also urged the ministry to implement the National Malaria Treatment Policy and ensure that treatment of malaria in all public hospitals was free across the country.
The House also mandated the Committee on Health Care Services to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Health, relevant international organisations and donor agencies to ‘ensure that malaria treatment is free in all public hospitals in Nigeria.’
