Reps Task FG on Radiotherapy Machines

The House of Representatives has decried the absence of functional radiotherapy machines in the nation’s hospitals and urged the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, to replace achines in all the federal health institutions were repaired. 
 
The resolution of the House for the Federal Government to provide functional Radiotherapy machines in government hospitals was sequel to the motion sponsored by Rep. Chris Azubogu, Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation. 
 
The House also urged government to take steps towards encouraging all state governments to procure new radiotherapy machines and to train their personnel. 
 
The Committee on Health has been mandated to necessary steps in ensuring the provision of adequate funds in the 2017 Appropriation Act for provision radiotherapy machines in selected  Federal Health Institutions with the target of getting at least one machine in each state of the Federation before 2019, in addition to adequate training for personnel to manage and maintain such machines. 
 
The health institutions in question are the LUTH, UNTH,UBTH, UDFH, and the National Hospital, Abuja. 
 
Azubogu had in the motion quoted the World  Health Organisation report that cancer accounts for 13 percent of all deaths globally mostly in the middle and low income countries.
