Resident Doctors Accuse JUTH CMD of Shunning Them

The President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Chinaka Ugochukwu, has accused the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Prof. Edmund Banwat, of refusing to meet with the national leadership of the association last Friday.

While addressing resident doctors, Ugochukwu said the association had informed the CMD of their coming ahead of time which was aimed at finding solutions to the lingering crisis between the hospital management and the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in JUTH but said the CMD instead, left for Abuja.

The NARD President expressed disappointment that the hospital was still sacking some resident doctors in spite of a court injunction and called for the withdrawal of the sack letters.

However, the CMD yesterday told Daily Trust on phone that he had been called to attend a meeting in Abuja and he asked his deputy and other management staff to receive the association.

Banwat said, “I was called to Abuja so I left Friday morning. I made arrangements with my deputy and other management staff who received them.”

While clarifying the issue of sacked doctors, Banwat said the resident doctors were not sacked but had exited the programme which was a maximum of six and seven years for those with sub-specialization all over the country.
