Medical doctors under the auspices of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Ondo State chapters, said they have suspended their industrial action.
The doctors commenced the strike action in February 2017 following the inability of the state government to pay their six months’ salary arrears.

The NAGGMDP and the MDCAN took the decision to go back to work at the meetings they held on Monday evening in Akure, the state capital. Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the Chairmen of NAGGMDP and the MDCAN, Dr. Busari Ismail, and Dr. Adeniyi Aderoba, respectively said they suspended the strike following the intervention of the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, who had shown commitment to pay the six months’ salary arrears on or before June 2017.
They also explained that the governor had met with the leadership of the associations and had promised that their monthly salaries would be paid regularly as and when due with effect from March 2017.
They said the state government had set up a committee headed by the state’s deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, to deliberate on the modalities for the payment of the six months’ salary arrears.
“The withdrawal of our services embarked upon since February 6, 2017 is hereby suspended effective from Tuesday March 14, 2017,” the doctors said.
