Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has described the condition of the state’s health sector as deplorable. He promised to do all within his powers to uplift the sector.
Yahaya said this while inaugurating a nine-man task force on health sector on Tuesday in Gombe, the state capital. Yahaya recalled that his visit to some health facilities shortly after his swearing-in showed that the health sector had been neglected by the past administration.
He said, “This administration will do its best in addressing the situation but this committee has the responsibility to review the operational framework on human resource for the health sector vis-a-vis the disposition of health workers across the tiers of the health system of the state.”
The committee, the governor added, also had the mandate to appraise abandoned projects in the specialist hospital and see to its immediate completion using the best available option to the government.
