Watching porn gives men the unrealistic expectation that it is easy for women to orgasm, a study suggests. Researchers analysed Pornhub's 50 most viewed videos of all time to determine the frequency of both male and female orgasms.
They looked at orgasm-inducing sex acts and whether clitoral stimulation was involved, what men and women sounded like when they climaxed and what their bodies were doing when they reached their sexual peak.
It was discovered only 18 per cent of women actually had an orgasm – the rest were fake. This compared to 78 per cent of men.
The study from the University of Quebec at Montreal concluded: 'As a result, representations of male and female orgasm in mainstream pornography may serve to perpetuate unrealistic beliefs and expectations in relation to female orgasm and male sexual performance.'

'There are so many bad lessons porn teaches us: that women don’t need foreplay, that threesomes are the norm, that the ‘highlight’ of sex for both genders is intercourse,' she said.
'Less than 20 per cent of women orgasm through penetration alone – in porn, it happens all the time.
'Women orgasm through clitoral stimulation and thrusting is an ineffective way of doing this.
'What’s even more frustrating is that we’ve known this for at least 2,000 years. The Kama Sutra talks about it.
'But both sexes seem reluctant to let go of the myth that the penis is the almighty satisfier.
'It’s not just the orgasms that are fake in porn – everything is fake. Think of it like a badly written soap opera not what’s really happening in real bedrooms.'
THE RISE OF THE 'PORNOSEXUAL'
The birth of the Internet has given more people access to free online porn, enabling them to fulfill their sexual urges with no need for another person in the room.
Now researchers claim it has given rise to a new phenomenon called 'pornosexuality' – when a person prefers porn to sex.
According to Medical Daily, the new term describes a person whose 'sexual orientation is linked solely to porn'.
Delving into the topic more deeply, sex addiction therapist and licensed marriage and family therapist, Christine Lozano, told the website: 'The convenience of getting off online without the potential work, vulnerability, intimacy, and connection with others can be appealing to some.'
Because men are considered to use porn more frequently than women, this increases their chances of identifying as pornosexuals.
Is porn making men impotent?
A number of studies have suggested watching porn could have a negative effect on your relationship.
Recent research suggests regularly watching x-rated films causes men to become disinterested in sex and suffer erectile dysfunction.
But it doesn't affect the sex lives of women, found experts at the Naval Medical Center of San Diego.
One in five men watch porn three to five times a week and three per cent admit they prefer it to sex with a partner, the survey revealed.
Watching porn is addictive in the same way as cocaine, with users building up a 'tolerance' for hardcore content over time that leaves them unsatisfied with real-life sexual activity, researchers said.
However, another study in June contradicted the findings.
It discovered porn isn't always to blame for turning men off sex with their partners and one in five men watch X-rated films to avoid intimacy,
A team from Los Angeles, California, studied 335 men in relationships and found that 22 per cent reported they preferred viewing porn to having sex with their partner.
They also found that 28 per cent of respondents said that they opted for masturbation over intercourse. And, tellingly, males who opted for masturbation over sex also reported more difficulty maintaining erections.
