A Team of medical experts niwould soon arrive in the country to attend to patients suffering from neurological disorder. Dr. Badewa Adejugbe-Williams of the Royal School of Educational Therapy Foundation disclosed this in Abuja yesterday.
She cited the disorders to include autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury and motor neuron disease. She disclosed that the medical experts would be led by the Head of Department of Neurosurgery, LTMG Hospital, Sion, Mumbai, India, Prof. Alok Sharma.
According to her, three different groups of healthcare service providers would accompany Sharma on the medical tour. The experts, who cut across diagnostic, treat-ment and rehabilitation stages would hold a seminar on Stem Cell Therapy Intervention programmes in Port Harcourt and Abuja from July 7 to 9, 2017.

According to them, Sharma, the founder of India-based Centre for Cell Therapies for Neurological Diseases, otherwise known as NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is a renowned neurosurgeon-cumneuroscientist. He has a high proficiency and enormous experience, as well as surgical expertise in the areas of neuro-surgery, neuroscience and regenerative medicine, they said.
Adejugbe-Willians, who is an American-trained special education therapist, explained that Royal School of Educational Therapy of Abuja and Pleasant Places of Education Centre, Port Harcourt would sponsor the first stage of the intervention programme.
The solution-driven seminars would be organised for home-based medical and special education service providers and parents in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
The focus would be on how the various neurological conditions could be effectively. managed . by the affected persons through stem cell therapy, which the trained personnel would impact on patients under their care.
According to her, the stem cell therapy to be used by the medical experts is the cheapest and surest way of managing all forms of neurological diseases. She stressed that it would be carried out in three different steps, including bone marrow aspiration, stem cells separation and stem cell injection.
"This therapy being used for the treatment of various brain, spinal cord, muscular disorders such as autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and injuries have helped to facilitate the repair of the nervous system of affected patients, as well as enabled the improvement of their functional ability.
"It would be minimally invasive, effective and 100 per cent safe with procedure that does not require major surgery or incisions," she said.
