Traditional Medicine Practitioners Protest ‘Neglect’ in Abeokuta

Some members of the traditional medicine practitioners yesterday almost took the shine off the 60th National Council on Health opening ceremony in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, as they embarked on a peaceful protest against what they described as “neglect and relegation to background of their position in the country’s health sector.”

Under the aegis of the National Association of Traditional Medicine Practitioners, the members carried various placards to challenge the federal government on the situation of the association as it also affects the bill before the National Assembly.

The Lagos State chairman of the association, Dr. Idowu Ogunkoya and former chairman of Ogun State branch, Chief S.A Adebanjo, said traditional medicine practitioners had been ignored. “You can imagine no mention was given in the address of the minister of health, so what is our fate in this country?” Ogunkoya queried.
