The University of Maryland Baltimore, supported by US Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention in Nigeria has donated Health Information Infrastructure to the Federal Ministry of Health to strengthen the health information system in country.
The items donated were: 2 dash board with inverter and solar panel to provide internet facilities, 30 Laptop Computers, one table top and UPS for analysis of data and one projector and screen.
Receiving the items on in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, represented by the Director Monitoring and Evaluation, FMOH Dr. Emmanuel Meribole said that d that the items received would be used for data capturing and analysis to influence quick decision making in the country.
“The goal of the project is to ensure quality HIV data capturing in the one National Demographic Health Information System (DHIS) and analyzing the data as well as promoting the use the information for decision making”
The Minister said to ensure success of the programme, the Ministry has developed a work plan which include re-engineering of the DHIS platform, building internal capacity to administer and analyze data on the platform by different diseases programme.
The National Demographic Health Information System is designed to collate all health information data from health facilities at the ward level to the local government level, to the state level and put it together in the National Demographic Health Information System platform. The DHIS is to coordinate the Health Information System of the entire country in a single platform for easy access and quick decision making.
In his re remarked, the Ag. Country Director US Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Nigeria Daniel Duvall who made the presentation said that the gesture is to support Federal Government’s effort in providing quality health data in the country.
Speaking, the Country Director University of Maryland Nigeria Programme Dr. Bola Gobir said that Maryland University would provide capacity building on operation and maintenance of the infrastructure
