Barely two weeks after a video went viral on the illegal training of quacks in nursing organized by the Omega fire ministry, a FAKE Midwifery certificate has surfaced on the internet

 

The certificate purpotedly by the Maternity Department of the Redeeemed christian church of God was issued to Alabi Grace Olabisi

 

 

It further reads that the midwifery certifcate was issued to the above mentioned after she completed the course of studies and passed all the prescribed examinations in the Redeemed school of Midwifery and in recognition of her excellence performance 

 

Reacting to this development, Nurse Jennifer Emelue of Nursingworld Nigeria noted the brazen encroachment of our professional autonomy by Churches in Nigeria. According to her, a line must be drawn between the obligations of the church to humanity and its legal limits and means to achieve its objectives. 

 

That this certificate was dated 13th December 2016 means the RCCG has been churning out quacks in its 'Redeemed school of Midwifery' for a while now. It is pertinent that the General Overseers of these churches be made aware of this legal infringements when they decide to go into training of quacks. There are extant laws guiding the training and certification of Nurses in Nigeria and the church must respect these laws and guidelines, Jennifer added.

 

According to Jennifer of Nursingworld, these same churches apply to the Nigerian universities commission before they start running universities like the bowen university owned by the Nigerian baptist convention, babcock university owned by the seventh day adventist church etc. So if the RCCG is interested in runing a school of midwifery it should apply to the nursing council for approval same way it applied to the NUC for approval for its redeemer university in Osun state.

 

She concluded that a petition would be written to the Registrar at the council with the certificate attached for follow up and due prosecution if proven.
