Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, yesterday rejected moves by the Federal Government to privatise public health institutions.
National Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Joy Bioblemoye, while speaking at a mass rally against happenings in the health sector, said the challenges facing the sector is corruption and lack of fair management in the system.
Some of the placards carried by the workers had inscription such as “Adewale must go, no JOHESU, no hospital, health workers say no to corruption” among others.
The workers, who were on a three days rally over the plights of JOHESU members, lampoon the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewale for withholding workers’ salaries for the months of April and May 2018.
He said the workers would not hesitate to shut down the sector, should nothing happen after the rally by the workers.
Comrade Bioblemoye while calling for President Buhari’s intervention into the matter disclosed that over 90 percent of Chief Medical Directors of public institutions have their private hospitals.
He said such practice lead to the rots in the system due to clash of interest.
The union leader said the mass rally was to sensitised Nigerian public and government that the workers are not strike mongers.
He further asked Nigerians hold the minister responsible should anything go wrong in the sector.
