A non-governmental organization Prevent AIDS Society PAS Federal Polytechnic Offa chapter, Kwara state, during the week, organized HIV/AIDS test and counselling to all students in the campus to mark the World AIDS Day. The Chief Matron of the polytechnic’s Health Canter, Mrs. M. O. Aduroju, who lead the awareness campaign in the campus, advised the students to know their own HIV/AIDS status, noting that a problem detected is problem solved.
Said she: “As we are celebrating the World AIDS Day, we will mourn the people who have lost their lives through this deadly disease, and also use this medium to show more love to the people who are living with these diseases, to give them hope that they can live healthy lives with it once they keep on with their medication.
“Moreover, we will orientate those that have not been affected to stay away from sharp objects which have been used by other people, stay away from casual sex to avoid the risk of AIDS.” The spokesman of Prevent AIDS Society (PAS) in the polytechnic, Prince Adeyemi Akeem Adewale, observed that “it is difficult for someone, mostly among ladies on campus, who has zipped-down to zip-up again. “If you’ve not zipped-down, keep it up, it’s good and worthy to be proud of being a virgin. Don’t say you are free now that you are not under the canopy of your parents.
However, as for you that already zipped-down, PAS has provided four letter antidote to help students”, he said. He enumerated those letters as A: Abstinence, don’t let them fool you to lose your dignity (virginity); B: Be faithful and abide to it in order to avoid the risk of contracting the disease.
Third, C: Condom, but note that, condom is 50 percent risk and 50 percent safe, so be wise. Lastly, D: Don’t discriminate people who are living with HIV/AIDS, rather be kind to them to show them love. He also added that, “for those who say they can’t leak sweet with nylon and enjoy the sweet, then be ready to die because you may not contact HIV at once but, surely you would contact different Sexually Transmission Disease (STD) and it could accumulate to something else if care is not taking.”
