The fight against circulation of fake and substandard drugs and other regulated products received a boost last week as the Yobe State government donated land to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, for the building of a state-of-the-art office complex.
Announcing this when the Acting Director General of NAFDAC, Yetunde Oni paid State GovernK Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, courtesy visit, Gaidam also promised to provide an operational vehicle to NAFDAC to assist in patrolling all nooks and crannies of the state.
Directing the state Commissioner for Land to make available a parcel of land, he also directed the Head of Service to provide office accommodation in the two other senatorial districts ,so as to improve the logistics challenges being faced by NAFDAC in the state.
The Acting Director General of NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Oni was in Yobe State for a sensitization campaign on "Rational use of Controlled Medicines, Safe handling of Chemicals and Responsible use of pesticides and Agricultural Chemicals", said the land would house a NAFDAC stand alone office, warehouse and laboratory complex that would shorten the registration process and bring activities of the Agency closer to the grassroots.
"We will continue to sensitize the general public on the public health implications of these substandard, falsified and unwholesome regulated products and the efforts of NAFDAC in tackling this ugly menace," she said.
