The Association of Resident Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, Zamfara has embarked on a five-day warning strike over promotion and overworking of staff.

The president of the association, Dr Bayo Adesiyun, who addressed journalists shortly after their meeting, said they decided to go on strike after several attempts to resolve the impasse with management of the hospital failed.

He listed the issues of contention to include staff promotion, overworking of staff, and management nonchalant attitude to their general welfare, among others.

Dr Adesiyun said promotion in the health facility has become a very serious issue of concern to the resident doctors and this is affecting their morale.

“I can also tell you that we are being overworked because the management refused to recruit more doctors despite several pleas to do so,” he said.

However, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr Muhammad Anka denied the allegations. He said the resident doctors want them to violate due process in the promotion of staff.
