The Acting Secretary of the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Mrs. Alice Achu-Ode, has said the Zuba Cottage Hospital and the Karu General Hospital have commenced health services since their reopening by the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello.

She said this on Friday while briefing newsmen on the secretariat’s achievements to mark the FCT minister’s two years in office.

“For Zuba and Karu hospitals to be reopened we had to take from the already critically low staffing from other hospitals and send them down there so the hospitals can be in full operation.

“Although the minister has given us the approval on employment, we can’t employ now until the budget is approved. I must say the two hospitals are fully functioning although we are still doing some little renovations in Karu hospital,” she said.

Achu- Ode while stating some of the achievements of the HHSS, said the secretariat has secured full accreditation of FCT hospitals for residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for five years; computerization of five FCT hospitals, establishment of 265 HIV sites in the health facilities within the six area councils, upgrading of one of the Abuja central medical stores to the status of state drugs distribution centres (SDDC).

Others are upgrading of the radiology units in the five general hospitals within the FCT as well as registration of 72 private health services and closure of 66 facilities due to failure to comply with the regulatory guidelines.
