Ekiti State Government has said it will speedily attend to infrastructure, equipment and personnel needs of secondary health care facilities in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, who bemoaned the state of the facilities, describing them as “dilapidated and worrisome,” said the present administration would rise to the occasion and give public hospitals across the state the required attention.
Yaya-Kolade spoke during an inspection tour of some of the facilities in company with the Chairman, Hospitals Management Board, Dr Bayo Orire; and the HMB Permanent Secretary, Dr Williams Afolabi. She said, “It is very disheartening that our hospitals are in this pitiable condition. It is obvious that the last administration did not do anything here. It is very bad.”
Orire, who blamed the poor state of the hospitals on the non-challant attitude of the last administration towards the health of Ekiti people, assured staff of the facilities that help was on the way from the present administration. The HMB boss charged the staff of the hospitals to be more committed to their duties and up their game, stressing that their assignment was a service to humanity.
Afolabi said the essence of the tour was to ascertain the challenges of the various hospitals in the areas of equipment and infrastructure to ensure quality health service delivery to Ekiti residents. The facilities visited included Oba Adejugbe General Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, general hospitals at Iye Ekiti, Ilupeju Ekiti, Itapa Ekiti, Ifaki Ekiti, Emure Ekiti, Oye Ekiti, and as well state specialist hospitals at Ikere Ekiti, Ikole Ekiti and Ijero Ekiti.
