2015: Kashamu Denies Nursing Governorship Ambition

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu, has denied nursing governorship ambition in the state.
He distanced himself from posters purportedly announcing such an ambition.
The posters of Kashamu, who is the chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation, South-West PDP, were seen at Oke-Ilewo, Post Office, Pansheke, Omida, Kuto, Oke-Mosan and Abiola Way – all in the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Kashamu said, “My attention has again been drawn to many posters dotting several parts of the state, announcing my purported governorship ambition.
“I, hereby, reiterate that I am not interested in contesting for any position. Whether I become a governor or not does not stop me from empowering my people.
“Even though it is true that people from all over the state have been pressurising me to run for the governorship of Ogun State; they say I have been there for them and the party when others abandoned it. They say even though I am a private citizen, I have touched their lives through my generosity and philanthropy; they say I am the only one who understands the level of poverty in the state and has taken practical steps to ameliorating it. And for these reasons, they want me to go to into public office to better their lot on a larger scale.”
Kashamu said though he appreciated the gesture, “I am not interested in the governorship of Ogun State or any office, whether elective or appointive.”
He added, “All I want is for me and other PDP leaders like Chief Bode George and Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun and others to recover the whole South-West for the PDP.”
The party chieftain, who said he was committed to working with other leaders to identify and support credible candidates that could win elections for the party, stressed that “once such candidates emerge, we would roll the party’s machinery behind them and ensure victory for the party.”
