Over 3,000 residents of Boripe, Boluwaduro and Obokun Local Government Areas of Osun State, have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Mount David Hospital, Ada. The medical outreach, held in partnership with medical practitioners from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was organised as part of programme for the inauguration of the hospital.
The Chairman, Mount David Hospital, Ada, Mr Bode Adediji, in an interview with our correspondent, said the notion behind the programme was to bring succour to people suffering all kinds of ailments, who could not afford medical treatment.
He said, “I believe that healthy citizens translate to a healthy nation. The notion behind this is to help humanity and to help the people in communities around us.
“There are many people out there suffering from different kinds of illness. In some communities around us, we found out that two major fsctors are responsible for untimely death. The first one is ignorance and the other is poverty. “Most patients don’t have enough money to seek medical treatment in a well equipped hospital. Some of them have gone to hospitals where they were given bills that they could not afford. This medical outreach brings hope to such people.
“Over 3000 persons have benefited from the services, which started last week with screening and will end on Friday. “Services offered include, laboratory test, blood pressure test, dental checkup and treatment, eye checkup and treatment, free consultation, free surgeries, free drugs and counselling.
“For now this special programme is free. But after the outreach, the hospital will render medical services at subsidised rates.” Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, 66-year-old retired civil servant, Mr John Ojo and 39-year-old food vendor, Mrs Bola Olawale, commended the sponsors of the outreach for the gesture.
