8 UNIMAID Nursing School Students Die In Auto Crash

Eight students of School of Nursing and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) died in a fatal motor accident, while five others, who sustained various degrees of injuries are receiving medical attention at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
The students were 2.00 pm Wednesday heading to Abuja for Christian Students Fellowship Conference when the driver of one the buses conveying them, in an attempt to avert a collision with an oncoming vehicle, ran into the bush.
The accident, which occurred at Lamari village in Sade Village in Darazo Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State, left eight of the occupants of the bus dead, while five sustained various degrees of injuries.
The Bauchi Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mohammed Haruna, told newsmen the accident occurred 2:00pm Wednesday when a convoy of three buses conveying students of University of Maiduguri and School of Nursing (UMTH) to Abuja for Christian fellowship conference was involved in a fatal accident, which claimed eight of the occupants of the bus.
Haruna said, “the driver of the one of the buses, in an attempt to avert collision, lost control and crashed into a bush, leading to the death of eight of the occupants of the bus, while five of them sustained various degrees of injuries.”
According to him, one of the vehicles, a Toyota Hummer bus, registered MAG 547 AA Borno, lost control, somersaulted and crashed into the bush.”
He said when the men and officers of Nigeria Police visited the accident scene, they rushed the victims to the General Hospital, Darazo for treatment but were later refereed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
