4.1 Requirements for Each Academic Position

a. Assistant Lecturer (CONUASS 1)

• First degree with at least Second-Class Upper Division from a recognized institution
• NYSC/Exemption Certificate
• Lower division may also apply

b. Lecturer II (CONUASS 3)

• Ph.D. in relevant field
  OR
• Master’s degree with at least 2 publications in reputable journals and 2 years as Assistant Lecturer

c. Lecturer I (CONUASS 4)

• Ph.D. with 2 years as Lecturer II and at least 5 scholarly publications + 2 edited conference proceedings
  OR
• Master’s degree with 3 years university teaching experience, 5 scholarly publications + 2 edited conference proceedings

d. Senior Lecturer (CONUASS 5)

• Ph.D. with 6 years university teaching experience and 3 years as Lecturer I
• Minimum of 6 scholarly publications + 5 edited conference proceedings
• Evidence of ongoing research and academic leadership

e. Reader (CONUASS 6)

• Ph.D. with 9 years university teaching experience and 3 years as Senior Lecturer
• Minimum of 12 scholarly publications + 8 edited conference proceedings
• Postgraduate supervision (Ph.D. and Master level)
• Academic leadership and mentoring ability
• Favorable external assessment
• Must currently be at least a Senior Lecturer

f. Professor (CONUASS 7)

• Ph.D. with 12 years university teaching experience and 3 years as Reader
• Recognized authority in area of specialization
• Minimum of 15 scholarly publications + 10 edited conference proceedings
• At least 75% of research score in area of specialization
• Postgraduate supervision (Ph.D. and Master level)
• Proven academic leadership and mentoring ability
• Administrative experience and integrity
• Favorable external assessment
• Must currently be a Reader or awaiting external assessment
