Nigerian Army Opens DSSC Recruitment for Medical and Health Professionals Nationwide

Applications are invited from eligible Nigerians for commission into the Nigerian Army as Direct Short Service Commission Officers. The Direct Short Service Commission is open to both civilians and serving military personnel for enlistment into the Nigerian Army Medical Corps.

Nigerian Army Medical Corps

Applicants to the Nigerian Army Medical Corps are required to present evidence of registration with their respective professional regulatory bodies and a current practising licence.

Eligible categories and requirements include the following:

Medical Consultants of Various Disciplines

Applicants may belong to recognised specialties including General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Anaesthesia, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Internal Medicine and its subspecialties such as Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology and Neurology, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Family Medicine, Dentistry, and other approved specialties.

Applicants must meet the following conditions:
• Must be a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or an equivalent recognised postgraduate medical college
• Must not be more than 40 years of age by 30 March 2026
• Must possess full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for undergraduate and additional qualifications where applicable
• Must have a current MDCN practising licence as a specialist

Medical Doctors and Dental Surgeons (Non-Consultants)

Applicants must possess MBBS or BDS qualifications respectively, be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, and hold a valid practising licence.

Nurses

Applicants must be Registered Nurses in recognised specialties including Midwifery, Paediatrics, Nephrology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, and other approved nursing specialties. Full registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is required.

Nursing (BSc Nursing)

Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and be fully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Professionals Allied to Medicine

Applicants must possess a degree in any of the following disciplines: Optometry, Environmental Health Technology, Dental Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Psychology, General Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Dental Therapy, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Health Information Management, Dietetics, or other recognised allied health professions.

Pharmacists

Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and be fully registered with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

Applications are to be made online free of charge from 7 January to 4 February 2026.

• Read the qualification criteria carefully
• Click on Apply Now under the DSSC category relevant to your qualification and corps of choice
• Indicate whether you are currently serving or have previously served in the Armed Forces of Nigeria
• Create an account by signing up or log in if you already have an account
• Complete the online application form and upload the required documents

Required documents include:
• Passport photograph
• Educational certificates
• Evidence of professional body membership
• Certificate of state of origin
• Birth certificate or age declaration
• National Identification Number or Bank Verification Number

Print Out and Endorsement

Applicants must print their online generated application slip upon completion.
• The first page must be signed by the Registrar of a Court of Law
• The second page must be signed by the applicant’s Local Government Chairman or Secretary, or a military officer of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent and above, or an Assistant Commissioner of Police and above, from the applicant’s state of origin

Successful candidates will be required to present their printed application forms and related documents to the Selection Board during the interview.
