Context:

  2. Nigeria has witnessed an increase in violence since the beginning of 2015, causing a major humanitarian crisis. IOM and the Humanitarian community have expanded their scope of intervention beyond Maiduguri itself, to the entire Northeast and Northwest, into priority satellite sites where IOM staff are delivering humanitarian and development support to displaced populations and host communities.
  3. Working under the overall supervision of the RR Programme Manager and in coordination with the ICRS Project Officer, , the successful candidate will be responsible for providing referral , administrative, and project management support for health assessments and emergency treatment and referral of DDRR programme individuals

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist Medical Doctors and medical government staff based in transit rehabilitation centres in Gombe and Maiduguri, in various duties, this includes but is not limited to logistic preparation for medical screening, handling, and safekeeping of individual medical files, collection of biodata and medical history, physical examination, ensuring identity checks of the applicants, and confidentiality of information throughout the screening process.
  2. Under the supervision of the DDRR Programme Manager and the ICRS officer and in coordination with the Medical Teams present in transit and rehabilitation centres in Gombe and Maiduguri assist in ensuring proper identification and coding of serious medical conditions and refer for treatment as appropriate, maintain strict client confidentiality, liaise with various health service providers to facilitate handling of such cases, and coordinate the procedures and supervision of treatment.
  3. Provide health screening to beneficiaries upon their entry into program, as well as on a regular basis during their stay at the Transition Center in coordination with Medical Teams present in transit and rehabilitation centres in Gombe and Maiduguri.
  4. Support Government centre medical doctors in providing medical treatment & referrals of complicated cases.
  5. Assist in establishing patient care goals, teach & counsel patients & reinforce their understanding of disease, medications & self-care skills, answers questions.
  6. In coordination with PSS team, conduct regular health & hygiene awareness sessions with beneficiaries at the center.
  7. Support coordination with IOM’s WASH and Shelter Units for supporting activities in transit rehabilitation camps administered by the Government.
  8. Assist the Medical Teams present in transit and rehabilitation centers in Gombe and Maiduguri with monitoring and coordinating procurement for the availability of medical supplies.
  9. Adhere to infection control policies & protocols, medication administration & storage procedures & controlled substance regulations at all times.
  10. Assist in keeping track of medical supplies & drugs, checking expiration dates & in ensuring & verifying timely replenishment to avoid stockouts in support of Medical Teams present in transit and rehabilitation centers in Gombe and Maiduguri.
  11. In coordination with Medical Teams present in transit and rehabilitation centers in Gombe and Maiduguri , report the key epidemiological data every week in a timely manner.
  12. Assist the Medical Teams to present in transit and rehabilitation centers in Gombe and Maiduguri in collating, analyzing & generating relevant data & submit reports as required.
  13. Assist in monitoring and administration of project WASH and Shelter-related activities.
  14. Assist Medical Teams present in transit and rehabilitation centers in Gombe and Maiduguri in diagnose and recommend referrals and treatment to all individuals visiting the clinic at transit centers daily
  15. Assist in Writing reports and maintaining records
  16. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor. Support Government center medical doctor in providing medical treatment & referrals of complicated cases.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Minimum a Diploma in Clinical Nursing from an accredited academic institution.

Experience

  1. Minimum four years (two years for bachelor’s degree Holders) of continuous practice post-graduation, registered to practice in Nigeria and with a valid registration license.
  2. Good computer literacy.
  3. Flexible work schedule and be ready to be engaged on short notice.
  4. Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relations with relevant Government counterparts, international organizations, and private sector entities.
  5. Previous work experience in international organizations and companies would be an advantage preferably within the United Nations or within the international humanitarian
  6. Training and experience in health emergency/first aid will be added advantage

Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Good knowledge of information technology and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions such as heavy workloads and tight timelines.
  • Willing to accept a flexible work schedule.
  • Attentive to details and accuracy in handling and reporting data.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Languages
