WAPCNM Liberia 2025: Nigeria Chapter Elects New Leadership as West African Nurses Unite for Healthcare Transformation

The West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives (WAPCNM) Nigeria Chapter has ushered in a new era with the election of its leadership team for the 20252027 term. The election, held during the 18th Biennial General Meeting (BGM) and 27th Scientific Conference in Monrovia, Liberia, from May 23 to 29, 2025, marks a significant milestone for the chapter as it continues to advance healthcare quality in the West African region.

The newly elected executive team is as follows

  • Dr. Juliet Berewari, Secretary
  • Mrs. Jaja Florence, Treasurer
  • Mrs. Uloma Mbanaso, PRO
  • Mrs. Chioma Egbuonu, Financial Secretary
  • Mr. Aluu Micheal, Assistant Secretary
  • Dr. Orunmuyiwa Grace, Immediate Past Chairman

In an official thankyou message, the newly elected Chairman, Dr. LillyWest Bulaola, expressed her gratitude and vision for the chapter’s future. I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the responsibility of serving as the Chapter Chairman of WAPCNM, Nigeria chapter, she stated. Thank you for the show of support, warm congratulatory messages, and encouraging words. Your faith in me is not taken lightly, and I commit to leading with integrity, inclusiveness, and intentional action.

Dr. Bulaola also acknowledged the contributions of her predecessors, noting, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to my predecessors and past executives whose dedication and efforts have brought our chapter this far. I stand on the solid foundation they have laid, and I hope to preserve the gains while pushing toward even greater relevance and impact. She emphasized the collective effort needed, adding, This new chapter is not about one person. It is about all of us, the Fellows, the silent workers, the emerging voices, and every member whose passion for our profession fuels progress.

The 18th BGM, held under the motto Unity, Knowledge, and Service, focused on the theme Collaboration and Partnership Towards Improving Quality of Healthcare in the West African Region. Key subthemes included strengthening health systems for maternal and neonatal health, improving universal health coverage, enhancing mental healthcare services, and advancing nursing and midwifery training and management skills. The event featured an opening ceremony, academic procession, plenary sessions, swearingin of new fellows, and faculty board meetings, among other activities.

The WAPCNM Nigeria Chapter remains committed to its mission of improving healthcare quality through collaboration, education, and service.
