ADDRESS DELIVERED BY PRESIDENT TAIWO OYEWUMI AT THE 6TH ANNUAL WORKSHOP AND CONFERENCE OF THE NIGERIA SOCIETY OF PHYSIOTHERAPY MANUAL AND ORTHOPADIC SPECIALTY GROUP  At LAGOS UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL, LAGOS ON 4TH THURSDAY, AUGUST 2016

I am happy to deliver a speech at the sixth Annual Conference and Workshop of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy Manual and Orthopaedic specialty group. The theme: Thoracic and Lumbar Spines: Pathologies and Treatment is apt and appropriate. This is a dream come true as the administration of the NSP under my leadership leaves behind her the legacy of specialization in Physiotherapy profession in Nigeria.

This group leadership deserves accolades for providing international standards road-map for the operation of the group. In addition, this group stood the test of time being the trail blazer in NSP specialty group organization. I implore the NSP Manual and Orthopaedic group to join other NSP specialty groups to continue to serve as strong voice for the profession of Physiotherapy in Nigeria. This group should continue to raise the bar and lift the ante to international standard level and provide relevant information network among her members.

As approved by the NSP Annual General Meetings(AGMs) in the last three years or so, I am looking forward to the combined meetings of all the specialties and pressure groups of the NSP. As your group continues to grow numerically and wax stronger I implore you to avoid any temptation of becoming a splinter group. Ensure that you play by the rules and guidelines provided by the NSP for specialties groups at all times and make your group an indivisible part of the NSP.

NSP Manual and Orthopaedic group should endeavour to join other NSP specialty groups and engage on the following:

i. Promote informed and evidence based clinical practice.
ii Integration on Continuous Development Programmes and hand-on skills training with the National Postgraduate Physiotherapy College of Nigeria (NPPCN) and the Nwuga

Physiotherapy Foundation(NPF).
iii. Extreme focus on research endeavours.
iv. Acquaint and educate members on research grants proposal and grant reports writing skills.
v. Collaboration with donor partners and funding agencies.
vi. Development of standards of practice protocols(sop).
vii. Support NSP as a pressure group.
viii. Address public health issues from time to time.
ix. Participate actively in NSP politics and lobby groups.
x. Engage actively in community outreach projects of the NSP and related corporate social responsibilities.
xi Organize regular press parleys, interviews and provide useful health information to the good people of Nigeria.

Kindly permit me to solicit for your support in NSP on-going collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) geared at opening of employment opportunities for

our teeming graduates of physiotherapy programmes. Further, efforts are being made by the NSP and the FMoH to use Physiotherapy as a pilot project platform to make

Nigeria a Medical Tourists nation.

I want to use this medium to appreciate your group leadership for participating in the last public hearing of the Bill for the enactment of the establishment of the

National Postgraduate Physiotherapy College of Nigeria. As we move to the next stage for the third hearing of the Bill both at the Senate and the House of

representatives, I further solicit your support as we interface with the Upper and Lower Houses at the National Assembly for the final passage of the Bill into an Act.

Thank you for granting me the audience.

Long live the NSP Manual and Orthopaedic group!
Long live the NSP!!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!
