The chairman of the Association of Medical laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, has frowned at the lingering medical doctors' strike, even in the face the Ebola virus outbreak in the country. 

He said that if the government succumbs to the doctors' demands, other health professionals in the country are ready to collapse the nation's health sector.

He argued that following the development the striking medical doctors would have suspended their strike, as patriotic Nigerians, and join hands with other health professionals in the country to proffer solution to the Ebola epidemic.

Ifeanyi, who disclosed this during an interview with newsmen yesterday. in Abuja accused the leadership of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA of Failing to instruct its members to call-off the strike in Lagos State, to enable the doctors to attend to identified Ebola patients.

He explained that NMA is a professional association not a trade union, saying that the Nigeria labour law as well as international labour law only provide for trade unions to call out irs memebers on strikes, and do a collective bargaining with the governement.

Consequently, he therefore also described as illegal lthe decision of the aggrieved doctors not to suspend their stike despite the government's plea.

He However advised the doctors to channel their grievances to the National industrial Court for proper action. 

Speaking on  the N1.9billion released by the government to fight Ebola, be urged the government to deem it necessary to allocate some parts of the money to capacity building of laboratories as well as research and other logistics Also, he expressed dismay that since the outbreak of Ebola disease in Nigeria, the body of  Laboratory scientists was not engaged in the process of containing the deadly scourge.

He, however, said that already the leadership of the association had been sensitizing Nigerians on how to go about on how to stay safe from Ebola.

Furthermore, the chairman, who is a molecular microbiologist/public health expert, appealed to the government to equip the centre for public labortory located at yaba in lagos state to serve as Ebola testing centre He pointed out that the centre was being left withour the provision of facilities, due to some medical doctoes who wanted to be headling the place.

However, the AMLSN boss commended President Goodluck Jonathan for th controversial suspension of the residency programmes for medical graduates, noting that a lot of money had been wasted during the programme by the government.
