One of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who died of Ebola Virus Disease last week in Lagos, has contracted the deadly Ebola virus (EVD).

The Minister of Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu, made the disclosure this afternoon in Abuja at a press briefing. The minister said that the doctor, whose name was withheld, is under quarantine, along with 8 others who showed similar symptoms.

 

“This is the second case of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria. This new case is one of the doctors who attended to the patient who imported Ebola Virus Disease into Nigeria. As I speak also three others who participated in that treatment who are currently symptomatic have had their samples taken. By the end of the day we shall have the results of their own tests,” he said.

 

He added that 70 people are currently under surveillance, and the Ministry of Health along with US CDC and WHO are working together to contain the spread of the virus.
