The Department for International Development (DFID) is looking to compile a list of people who have the following skills that could potentially be deployed to East Africa between now and December 2014 to assist with the Ebola outbreak.
Skill set required :public health, clinical, laboratory, health messaging, epidemiology, surveillance, communication and social mobilisation, infection control, logistics and data management.
i. Communication Specialists: particular expertise in the following would be beneficial
- Trainers in relaying communication messages (for public consumption and for training of health staff)
- Development of messages for interpersonal communication as well as for mass media
- Monitoring and evaluation of impact of messages
ii. Infectious Disease clinicians
iii. Epidemiologists/disease control specialists: with specific skills/interests in
- Contact tracing
- Surveillance techniques
- Coordination
- Infection control
- Database management/ Epi-info
- Training
- VHD diagnostic techniques and training of health staff
iv. Humanitarian logisticians/coordinators

Finally, please be aware that there are no confirmed deployment plans at present. A DFID humanitarian adviser is currently assessing the situation on the ground together with DFID Sierra Leone, and will be putting together the recommendations on what the UK response should entail (including recommendations on what deployments may be required and what deployment mechanisms could be utilised).
