Description
The Centre for Rational and Cognitive Behavior Therapies, a Canadian affiliate of Albert Ellis Institute, New York, in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Nigerian Physicians and Dentists (CANPAD) presents an educational opportunity designed to introduce primary care clinicians to the theory and practice of Rational Emotive Cognitive Behavior Therapy (RECBT), the pioneering form of cognitive behavior therapy. This experiential workshop emphasizes the importance of therapeutic relationship and the evolving psychotherapeutic process through the use of rational emotive and cognitive behavior psychotherapeutic techniques. The workshop includes didactic presentations, interactive discussion, observation of other participants and therapists using the RECBT techniques as well as practicing and experiencing psychotherapy through peer counseling exercise.
 
Learning Objectives
On completion of the 4-hour workshop participants will:
1. Understand and apply the RECBT theory of emotional disturbance and change
2. Identify and intervene as patients’ core maladaptive patterns emerge
3. Construct and teach clients how to have new adaptive thoughts, emotions and behaviors
4. Apply the REBT principles and intervention strategies to improve their patients’ engagement.
